Objectives / Objectivos

The wage gap between women and men is a persistent reality, difficult to fight, being based on structural inequalities resulting from the different participation in the labor market (on average in the EU, women earn about 17% less than men and in Portugal women still earn on average less than 18% of base pay than men). This project aims to bridge this gap and recommends a methodological innovation in gender studies (measuring, recording, organizing, analyzing and visualizing, combining new information technologies – use of smartphone, API, GPS and GIS – to generate information transposed in indicators, indexes, infographics and video).

In Portugal there is no statistical, systematic and current study on gender differences in an integrated and territorial perspective – at the local level – between work and mobility (only the Survey on Time Occupation from INE, 1999, at the national level). Thus, the project objectives are addressed to:

  1. scientific knowledge transfer;
  2. creation of a methodology and an instrument of data acquisition, storage, organization, analysis;
  3. deliver periodic measurement of working time in unpaid work to support family life, including domestic work;
  4. design educational products for awareness on reconciliation of private and professional life;
  5. incentive policy making (public and private) responsible for and adapted to social and geographical contexts of employers and their salaried staff;
  6. contribute to the promotion of policy measures of smart cities from the perspective of intelligent mobility;
  7. strengthening bilateral relations Portugal-Norway in the exchange of scientific knowledge, experience and training.
